Hester Painting & Decorating Celebrates 40th anniversary with painting project at facility dedicated to children with serious and ongoing medical concerns
SKOKIE, Ill. (Dec. 24, 2008) – CoACH Care Center in Naperville is a bright spot for the families it serves, and Hester Painting & Decorating is making the setting a little more cheerful with a fresh coat of paint. On two December days, painters from the Skokie-based painting, wall covering installation and faux finishing company volunteered their time to redecorate the walls at the not-for-profit CoACH Care Center.
A 24-hour facility, CoACH Care Center serves medically fragile children and their families. Hester Painting & Decorating became aware of the facility – and its need for paint – when a client suggested the center in response to Hester’s request for charity project ideas for the company’s fortieth anniversary.
“I was overwhelmed by the number of volunteers who gave their time and energy to our kids and their families over the weekend,” said Mary Kay Caporali, director of operations at CoACH Care Center. “It is organizations such as Hester that make what we do possible.”
In December, 23 Hester painters cam e to CoACH Care, donating more than $21,000 worth of labor. They painted the great room, main hall, patient hall and nurses’ hall with VOC-free (volatile organic compound) paint donated by Benjamin Moore, Sherwin Williams and Pittsburgh Paints. They also over glazed the window woodwork and treated bleach stains made when the sprinkler lines had been bled. In January, the painters will return to do touch ups following the installation of cabinetry and will paint the administrative offices.
“When we first went out to see the facility, we were amazed,” said Jeff Hester, vice president of Hester Painting & Decorating. “It feels like a home, not a hospital. The nurses and volunteers give so much to help these children. We wanted to do what we could to make their center fresh and beautiful for them and those who visit.”
CoACH Care Center is a 10-bed facility is housed in a 4,000 square-foot home set on 2.5 acres of landscaped grounds. Children stay in the Respite Care program for up to two weeks a year, and the 120-day Transitional Program serves as a bridge between hospital and home. The first center of its kind in the nation, CoACH Care Center is recognized as a multidisciplinary model of excellence for the short-term clinical care of children, many of whom are technology dependent. The Center is open seven days a week, 24-hours a day, so that families can spend maximum time with their child.
